FAQ

Where is your office located?

900 Ridge Road Suite 1S Homewood, IL 60430

If you are familiar with the area, we are right off the corner of Ridge and Halsted, directly across from Speedway.

What if I live too far or can’t make it into the office?

Not a problem. Most of our staff have telehealth availability. They can meet you in the comfort of the location of your choice. You can connect to the secure telehealth platform through your cell phone or laptop.

Telehealth… What’s that and how do I use it?

Telehealth is a great opportunity to connect with your therapist when you’re not able to come into the office. Here at Mindful Wellness Counseling, we use a secure platform called Simple Practice, which allows our conversations to be protected and safe.

Click here to see a live demonstration of how easy it is to connect. If you want more information, click here to download a quick getting started with telehealth guide.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

A 24-hour advanced notice of cancellation is required. If advanced notification is not provided, you may be required to pay the full cost of the session. Once you are a client with Mindful Wellness Counseling, you will receive an attendance agreement with your intake packet to reference.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

Our goal is to connect quality mental health services to our community. Sliding scales are considered on a case-by-case basis. Please keep in mind that these sessions are time-specific and based on caseload availability.

Do you accept insurance?

Sure do. We work with several insurance companies. Give us a call today, so we can discuss this in more detail.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes, we do. Select a therapist with whom you may be interested in working. Then, give us a call today, and we can schedule a free 10-minute consultation.

My job has an Employee Assistance Program; do you take that?

Sure do. We work with several employee assistance programs. Give us a call today to discuss your program.

What should I expect when I come to a session?

If you’ve never been to therapy, you might be imagining something like what you’ve seen on TV. The reality is far less sensational.

Your first session will be a chance for you and your therapist to get to know each other, discuss your goals and concerns, and develop a preliminary plan for moving forward. That plan might include exploring your thoughts and feelings, practicing new tools in session, and teaching skills to practice at home.

We’re not one-size-fits-all, and we work hard to meet your needs and preferences on an individual basis.

How often should we meet?

Most clients prefer to meet weekly. That seems to be a good cadence for getting some momentum going, especially early on. Setting a weekly meeting time is also a way to prioritize therapy as a part of your healthy routine.

If you are interested in a schedule that’s more or less frequent, let us know! We will do our best to accommodate when we can.

I don’t want to be in therapy forever?

We agree with you. We will make sure to keep you focused on resolving your specific issues, so you can get on with your life.

We practice within a short-term model, which means most clients will work with us for 8-12 sessions. If the goal changes, we adapt.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

The difference is between someone who can do something and someone who has the training and experience to do that same thing professionally. A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way: teach you new skills, help you gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself.

Furthermore, therapy is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing your business.”

Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, and you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person, so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.

Do I have to lay down on a couch?

Totally up to you. We want you to be comfortable, but lying down is optional. Let’s leave this up to how you’re feeling the day you come to visit.

If I see you in public, can we have a random conversation?

Unfortunately, no. Our various clinical Code of Ethics discourages interactions outside of the office unless legally or medically warranted to protect your privacy.

If we happen to be in the same place, we will not be able to carry on a conversation with you. We will also not acknowledge that we even know you. However, if you say hi or smile first, we can then reciprocate, but that is the limit.

Your confidentiality is our main priority, and our goal is protecting your personal space and privacy. Honestly, it’s just one of those rules we have to follow.

Do you prescribe medication?

Nope. That’s not our area of expertise. We will refer you to your primary care physician for all your prescribing needs.

But wait… I have more questions!
