Feeling frustrated and confused.
Jamille, a mom of 3 sat dazed and confused staring at her teen.
Fighting back tears of both hurt and confusion.
Who is this person standing in front of me?
Where did my loving adorable baby girl go?
More importantly, when did I become “that mom”, that has no connection to my child”.
Feeling as if she just dosent know who her daughter is anymore.
I guess I thought parenting would be easy. Easier than this, at least…”
She and her daughter used to be inseparable. They shared everything. But something had changed.
Suddenly, I have no idea what is going on in her head, she noticed.
I just want my little girl back.
Youth/Teen Counseling
At Mindful Wellness Counseling, we’re focused on providing compassionate and supporting care and guidance to every person we work with. If your child is struggling with emotional concerns, seems to be acting differently, or simply has expressed interest in improving their mental health, we’re here to support with youth and teen therapy services!
Being A Parent Is Tough
Being a parent of more than one child is even more challenging! If you fear that something is not right with your child, the everyday challenges can become serious concerns. Parenting is never easy, but when your child has problems that go beyond what has been the norm in your home, then you may become concerned. Your child may be participating in risky behavior including drugs, alcohol, promiscuity, or self-harm. Perhaps your child displays different types of behaviors that can be considered acting out, such as disrespect, defiance, or violent outbursts. Your child’s grades may have dropped for no apparent reason, or they show a lack of interest in previously enjoyed activities. Rather than interacting with others, your child self-isolates or displays other types of escape strategies, including hyperfixations or excessive sleeping. They may begin to have thoughts of suicide or want to fall asleep and not wake up.
Asking For Support
When parents see something that seems different with their kids, asking for support can trigger all sorts of feelings. Feelings of failure or shame constantly may dominate their actions. If you’re struggling with these kinds of feelings, try to remember that reaching out for support is an act of courage rather than a sign of weakness. You are doing what’s necessary to love and protect your child and provide them with the care and understanding that only a mental health professional can offer.
Where do you start?
You want to support them, but you’re not sure where to start. It’s hard sitting by and watching your child go through this alone. These are common feelings experienced by all concerned parents, so it’s important to understand that you’re not alone! You’re also not alone in your search for support from professionals who care about your child and your family. You can start out by researching mental health professionals in your area, finding scheduling information, and browsing their websites for service information. At Mindful Wellness Counseling, we’re here to make things easier for you as you support your teenager through these challenges and struggles, so all of our information is readily available here, or you can always reach out to us directly with any questions about our youth and teens therapy.
