Play Therapy

Children speak a different language

When children are struggling, they often cannot find the words to explain what they are feeling. They act out, withdraw, shut down, or act in ways that leave parents wondering what is really going on. Play therapy meets children where they are, using play as the natural language through which they express, process, and make sense of their experiences.

How play therapy works

Play therapy is a structured, evidence-based approach in which a trained therapist uses toys, art, games, and creative activities to help children explore their emotions and work through challenges in a safe, supportive environment. Children do not need to talk directly about what is bothering them. Through play, they naturally express what they cannot yet say out loud, and the therapist helps them process and heal.

What play therapy can help with

Play therapy is effective for anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioral concerns, grief, social difficulties, family transitions, and emotional regulation challenges. It is appropriate for children ages 3 to 12 and can be adapted for older children and teens when needed.

What parents can expect

Parents are an important part of the process. Your therapist will keep you informed and involved, sharing progress and providing guidance on how to support your child at home. You are not on the outside looking in. You are part of the team.
